Is the umbrella name for all the businesses in 36 Lime Street. It is a huge Grade 2 listed warehouse designed as a flax mill by John Dobson and built around 1848.
In 1982 it was bought as a base for Bruvvers Theatre Company's touring operations in Greater Newcastle.
Over the years it has been subdivided by the occupiers themselves to provide spaces for a variety of cultural businesses: 70 Small to Medium Enterprises at present.
This development has proved to be a major element in the regeneration of the Ouseburn Valley.

Bruvvers occupy level 5 and the rest of the building houses 40
studio/workshops.
This section of The Fun Palace is managed by a users'
co-operative known as 36 Lime Street Ltd.
36 Lime Street Ltd. hold an annual
Open Studio Weekend event over the last weekend of November, where visitors can
meet artists, designers and makers and buy or commision work directly.
The Fun Palace is situated on the path of Hadrian's Wall in the heart of the new
Ouseburn Urban Village and is central to the next ten years of development of
the valley.
Bruvvers are a community theatre company, based in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, specialising in touring popular theatre. They operate an ensemble company with at least three plays in repertoire at any one time. They do approximately 250 performances per year and play to approximately 50,000 people.

Bar/Cafe venue built and developed for Bruvvers and is now managed by "Head of Steam". It has an impressive variety of beers, good food and a reputation for live music presentations.


The Round is the North East's only theatre-in-the-round, and the North's only theatre specialising in work for children and young people. It opens in summer 2007. We are proud to be a fun, unpretentious and accessible place for everyone to come and enjoy the best in live theatre. We are located in the Ouseburn Valley near the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne.
The theatre has its resident company, Bruvvers Theatre Company, who have been touring to schools and community centres around the North-East for 36 years. Bruvvers have long had the dream of building their own theatre and the Round is the result! Seating 180 people, on all four sides of the stage, the theatre is home to a wide variety of drama, children's theatre, comedy, music, magic, cabaret and dance.
